Ladies and gentlemen, “the” holiday season is amongst us. And with the arrival of “the” holiday season, soon the holiday party invitations will come. And with those holiday party invites comes great responsibility of being a good guest to your host. And admittedly, I wasn’t always a “good” guest. Sure, I’d RSVP. Maybe arrive just a little fashionably late (a girl’s gotta make an entrance) and I’d help clean up here and there during the party. But the one thing I consecutively neglected to do was bring a gift for the hostess. Quite honestly, I didn’t know it was bad form not to bring a gift. It wasn’t until later in life (*cough, cough in my 30’s) I learned you should always bring something to the party other than yourself.
So What Exactly is a Good Hostess Gift for the Holidays?
Just call me Dionysus . . . Who is Dionysus, you ask? The goddess of wine. I LOVE to bring the gift of wine. Seriously, who can be made at the person who brings the gift of wine to a party? Because I’ve learned over the years, never to go to a party empty handed, I usually keep a good bottle of wine around for just these occasions.
Red or White? Which is the Best Wine for Gift Giving?
Not sure which wine to bring??? I tend to lean more towards bringing a bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon) verses white (Chardonnay). Cabernet Sauvignon (red wine) is my go to mainly because no chilling is necessary before enjoying it. I mean, what if your host wants to immediately uncork it to enjoy during their party? Also, I’m a Cab fan because it pairs well with most party appetizers (beef, cheese and pork).
My current favs this holiday season are the Charles Wetmore Cabernet Sauvignon and the Riva Ranch Chardonnay both by Wente Vineyards. Pro Tip: Wanna sound like a true wine connoisseur? Casually drop in this little fact nugget: the family of Wente wines all hail from California from the “country’s oldest, continuously operated family-owned winery.” Boom! #fakeituntilyoumakeit
Need a Creative Way to Gift Wrap a Bottle of Wine?
Tools: 5 minutes, 3 yds of tulle, 2 rubber bands, a few fresh flowers and some ribbon.
*Thank you to Wente Vineyards for making gift giving much easier!
